Pickford Film Center Celebrates First Anniversary of Bay Street Location

Pickford Film Center (PFC) is preparing to celebrate the first anniversary of their 2-screen theater on Bay Street in downtown Bellingham by hosting a revolving art show and sale and screening specially curate films during a week-long celebration.

The SPRINGTIME SALON AND ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION festivities will begin with an Art Walk reception on Friday, April 6^th with light refreshments being served from 7:00pm – 10:00pm. The event will wrap up on Thursday, April 12^th.  Pastries for the celebration will be provided exclusively by La Vie En Rose.

In addition to the Friday night reception, the public will be invited to stop by the pay-and-take-art show throughout the week and check out the unique and original artwork for sale ranging from paintings to photography to mixed media. Every piece of art sold will go home with the purchaser and then replenished with another piece by the same artist. Participating artists at press time include George Jartos, Kay Dee Powell, Vikki Jackson, Candace Buethorn, Julia Clifford, Ginny Baker, Judy Coffman, Mary Byrne, and Jayme Curley.  Artwork will be exhibited and for sale from 2:00pm – 10:00pm daily.

“We thought it would be appropriate for our first year anniversary to include artistic expression in all forms as well as some select films chosen with the salon theme in mind,” said Clark. “This will be a fun first year anniversary where Pickford fans can stop by the first night during the Art Walk and then a few times during the week to see what new art might be displayed.”

Founded in 1998 by a group of movie lovers with a desire to keep independent cinema alive in Bellingham, Pickford Film Center is the nonprofit organization that operates Bellingham’s only independent movie venues –Pickford Film Center at 1318 Bay Street and PFC’s Limelight Cinema at 1416 Cornwall Avenue – the region’s only independent year-round movie theaters.
